News Article Updates

Press Release: January 25th, 2023

Over the past year Cherokee Cablevision has been working to upgrade and expand its network on the Qualla Boundary and surrounding areas. They are happy to announce that this upgrade and expansion is now complete.  Cherokee Cablevision now has assets along over 500 roads/streets in the area. This opens internet availability to new customers and allows existing customers to receive higher speeds than before.  In addition, Cherokee Cablevision has restructured its pricing and now has internet packages starting at $45 a month

Pricing Update

As part of our current agreement with Cherokee Cablevision, BalsamWest is committed to providing the best possible services at the lowest possible cost to Cherokee Cablevision customers. Unfortunately, at times, it is necessary to make some price adjustments. Due to increasing cost associated with providing video services, Cablevision Video Service will be increased to $48.00 monthly for existing customers beginning Jan 1, 2023. As part of our ongoing efforts to improve the services offered to you, we will also be adding an additional 10 Channels to the current lineup. There will be no additional charge for the added channels.

BalsamWest chosen to operate Cherokee Cablevision

Cherokee Cablevision is now under new operating management, and it’s making strides to improve services to customers.

“BalsamWest, which is owned by the Tribe, has been selected to operate (Cherokee) Cablevision,” said Jason Maples, BalsamWest vice president of sales and marketing.  “Cablevision is kind of a multi-pronged project, but the tribal assets of Cablevision will always remain tribal assets.  BalsamWest is just basically the manager of those assets.”

Upgrades coming along to Cherokee Cablevision infrastructure

BalsamWest took over operations of Cherokee Cablevision in December 2021 and has been working to upgrade the system.  Those improvements are coming along, but there is still a lot of work to be done says Jason Maples, BalsamWest vice president of sales and marketing.
